Beware of VRAM usage in P3D v5

Featured Replies

Yea, but the VRAM itself is gonna jump significantly.

I have update to HF1.But seems the VRAM is the same as before.:(

They added texture streaming to the GPU at the expense of some performance. Also, they now try to predict out of memory situations and control the situation instead of letting the simulator handle it (crash).

To enable this, check P3D options and enable Texture Streaming in the video options. Beware that performance is (can be) degraded.

When Windows10 version 2004 releases mid-may more VRAM usage improvements will be seen or so Microsoft claims. Also, keeping up with the drivers might be a good idea as LM is working directly with nVidia. As far as AMD is concerned... well, not the best choice for simulators yet.

I've downloaded the Windows 10 ver.2004 through the windows insider program and P3D is now showing an extra 1gb available to use! So far so good.

That requires a bit of courage lol. I have it on my laptop for testing and it's really buggy in some aspects. Good luck, it should be much more stable by release.

....four years later...

After treating myself to all the addons I wanted I finally caused an OOM on P3Dv5.4.

Specs:

13600k (OC'd to 5ghz)

32gb DDR5

GTX 3080 (10gb VRAM)

ORBX: pretty much everything global

REX SkyForce

REX WWA

GSX 2.0

Concorde x64

AIG Traffic (all major airlines installed, airliner traffic set to 50%, all other ai traffic set to 0%)

FPS slider set to 30

Mostly default/high settings in P3D, definitely not max

Really I'm just surprised that I OOM'd.  I thought for sure 32gb RAM/10gb VRAM would be enough for everything but nope.  She runs smooth FPS, even at high settings, yet the memory monster hungers for more.  C'est la vie I guess.  Time to go to 64gb DDR5 and a GTX 4090!

You mean RTX 4090. RTX 5090 come November 2024.
