I would like to know if anybody knows a tool/gauge which allows me to access the current metar via an internet connection without closing the FSX windows? I mean something similiar to the IVAO client.

(if it is even valid, still, of course)

Will FSRealWx suit your needs. Don't know about a guage, but it's a free weather engine, so you can see the metar for your current location, or the nearest site, or any site you want to look up.
