Hi everyone that uses MSFS,

quick question that I have is what would you recommend in terms of a future proof PC?

current system can handle the sim but not at the level that it needs for fslabs and detailed scenery.

Hi Sabine,

I just ordered a new PC and here are the specs: (I definitely recommend going the AMD way in terms of CPU, I have been a loyal Intel customer so far, but a few friends of mine that are serious gamers are raving about the AMD chip running lower temps, etc.) Hope this helps!

Bruno

Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D (16-Core) 5.7 GHz Turbo (3D V-Cache) (Zen 4)
Motherboard: ASUS Prime B650M-A AX (Wi-Fi) (AMD B650) (Up to 3x PCI-E Devices) (DDR5)
System Memory: 64GB DDR5 6000MT/s Kingston FURY RGB
Graphics Card(s): 1x GeForce RTX 4090 24GB
Power Supply: 1000W Digital Storm Performance Series (Semi-Modular) (80 Plus Gold)
Storage Set 1: 1x SSD M.2 (2TB Digital Storm M.2 Performance Series) (NVM Express)
Storage Set 2: 1x SSD M.2 (2TB Digital Storm M.2 Performance Series) (NVM Express)

Perhaps the newer chips do, but as someone who uses 5800 lower temps is certainly something I do not experience.

Hi Bruno,

thanks for the recommendation. I have been hearing a lot of AMD for the past few years and the performance. I still have a pretty solid case and power supply for now so the core system upgrade is the main concern. GPU is need something I am also investigating but definitely need more vram.

That's a sweet looking rig which should serve you well for a few years to come. My only personal feedback is it's also worthwhile looking at your motherboard for NVMe support, cos read/write speeds are ridiculous in comparison to SSD's. On the plus side, even large SSD's are relatively cheap these days. I've gone NVMe for OS, separate NVMe for my flightsim stuff, 2TB SSD for storage (or for games that don't necessarily need disk read/write performance...), and a 4TB HDD that I moved over from my old system that acts as long-term storage/backups

Yeah definitely looking at 1tb os drive and 4tb for sim both nvme. The naming ssd comes from the computer store.

Regarding mob:

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MAG-X870-TOMAHAWK-WIFI/Specification

there is plenty of support.

nice setup, I'm currently waiting for my 9800X3D, only part that is still missing...
only difference in my setup is the mainboard, I'll use a MSI X670E, bit cheaper but should work just as well

make sure your RAM supports the EXPO profile (similar to XMP but for AMD CPU's)

That is ensured through the configurator I use.

i wanted a lot of usbs for hardware.

The RTX 5090 and the latest AMD CPU.

Two things that aren’t even out yet and not within budget.

Future proofing isn’t really a thing…the question you should be asking is “what system will enable me to play top of the line games at top line settings for a few years before they become outdated and I have to drop my settings to play current gen games.”

What is your budget?

Budget is up to 4000€. Current system is in specs and pretty old.

Steam’s Lossless Scaling app is transformative. Less than €10.

Hi Ray,

Would this be usable for a 10 monitor set-up as well? Triple screen outside view. 4 screens connected to a 4090 GPU, the others via "USB3 to HDMI" adapters.

If you plan to use via mono than you might be limited in the pcie lanes

Ten! Wow! There is an option for multiple displays but I have no idea how it could cope with so many. For a minimal outlay you could give it a try but I doubt it would work.

I can’t emphasize enough what a game-changer Lossless Scaling has been for me.

I even feel like, for my next build, I won’t have to purchase the best hardware available to get FS to run well.

I urge anyone concerned with future-proofing or upgrading their systems to at least give Lossless Scaling a try… your wallet may thank you.
