How is a Airbus A320, A330, or A340 developed? Does each engineer make a specific system?

Hey guys

I've always wanted to know how a A330 or A340 is designed and developed. Say is there a massive team of 1000 engineers and each one splits into a different group to design a specific system? How does it work?

Normally a team of engineers with focus on one system or sub-system, with a split between Systems, Software and Hardware. Sometimes the split can be even further and down to left and right hand sides of the "V" (Design and Validation).

The Manufacturer is usually what is known as a integrator, with many sub-contracting companies providing systems, or sub-systems to them, to form a complete aircraft.
