Skalarki and FSL A21N

Hi All:

A year after getting back into Flight Simming, and going down the WinWing / Rowsfire etc route, i find myself wanting more for my in-home immersion. To that end, I've reached out to Skalarki and I'll hopefully be buying the Single Person Ped, MIP, and possibly the overhead soon, With the sidestick etc to follow as and when I can afford them.

My current plan is to add the following to my system:

3 x 55" OLED Monitors for the Forward Views

1 x 5.1 Surround System

1 x Flight Sounds Dual Pro (or maybe a single for now) GA Audio Interface

1 x Bose Proflight2 Headset

I've also got a good lead on an A320 Captains Seat that will hopefully work out, but not holding my breath on that one!

Anyway - I'm writing here as I have a few (million) questions and I know that a good few FSL Users and Testers have similar setups. I feel like I've pestered Skalarki's team to the point of annoyance on the options etc for purchase, but what I'm really looking for are end-user thoughts, opinions, pitfalls, and challenges... So some questions if I may?

1. Forward Views

How do you set yourself up with these so that your vision is accurate for the forward view? 
Can you get rid of the VC? 
Does getting rid of the VC improve performance?

2. PFD / ND / ECAM

Does the Skalarki Software handle the positioning of the ND / PFD / ECAM Screens for you or do you still resort to PopOutManager?

If you have gotten rid of the VC for the Forward Views, how does this work?

3. Sound

There's no doubt in my mind that moving to a surround system will be a bonus, but do any of you have any points or pitfalls to suggest that i look out for?

Does anyone use any of the Flight Sounds kit? I'm MSFS2024 and Say Intentions, do the Volume Controls, etc work well with the Skalarki Hardware and SI, etc?

Re-routing Comms output to say the Internal Speaker - Do you add a speaker - Is switching over to that doable with the Skalarki kit / MSFS?
 

Lastly, as I said, I'm looking for end-user thoughts and opinions here and things to beware of, so by all means, even if it's not necessarily relevant to my questions above, I'm all ears!
 

My goal is that I get as much as possible functional before the Skalarki kit arrives so that I can install it, and set it up with the minimum of fuss and faff.

have a look here, that should answer some questions.

Can you get rid of the VC? no

Does getting rid of the VC improve performance? I suggest you use Cabin Lite option in control center

Does the Skalarki Software handle the positioning of the ND / PFD / ECAM Screens for you or do you still resort to PopOutManager? Either FSLabs Hardwar Interface https://forums.flightsimlabs.com/files/category/120-hardware-interface-for-msfs/ which you will need  which yo will need if using Skalarki or popout manager

Sounds can be adjusted in MCDU options, page 3/3, sounds

Finally ordered the Captains side MIP, Ped, and Capt Sidestick box / stick / tiller and the overhead bracket - Pedals and overhead later when i can afford - so currently awaiting shipping of that to me (hopefully this week or early next plus however much time it needs to get here). In the meantime, i'll be using my QuickMade mini overhead and WinCtrl pedals (and hoping they fit in the space)

Had to RMA the i9 last week and that's due back on Friday so all being well, a freshly installed and optimised Sim, just in time for a shiny new cockpit. 

Really looking forward to getting this up and running

I'm sure i'll be wanting to pick your brains on things, but hoping a lot becomes much clearer when the hardware is here and i've started using it. The tough part is deciding what i want to do next. 

The big OLED is just outside of the price-range until next month, then i want the surround, then i want the Overhead, then i want the DCDU screen, and i need to make a platform for it, and, and, and

I know the pain, once you started the wallet stays empty and the wish list never stops. For me it started with the TQ and MCDU DesktopLine. Now it´s a full dual seat cockpit.

Please do me a favor and try to avoid the newly released Connect7 for the time being and use Profiler instead. Not all Hardware is yet supported so that will save you a lot of headache. Use the setup guide i already linked, not everything is covered but I will hold on editing it until connect7 works for all. Maybe consider GlassOut to pop out the displays. It works quite well as of now and gives you the opertunity to connect your EFIS and ECAM displays to another PC which frees up a lot of CPU resources (doesn´t need to be a second gamig PC). Note That GlassOut is a payware addon and is still in beta.

If you look out for budget friendly TV sets I recommend Hisense 65A6, use them myself (3ea) and I´m very happy and they cost less than 500€ each, have 60Hz and 4K. 3 TV sets obviously forces you to lower the graphics and resolution.

That sounds very interesting as I'm at the moment using MSFS pop up manager for all displays. Please confirm that I can just install GlassOut on a networked "older low specs" PC to drive all EFIS, ECAM, ISIS and DCDU displays while having MSFS and FSLabs only installed on the main gaming PC?

Also, with the latest HWI you can run a second instance of Skalarki Profiler on a Different PC and offload any hardware you want to do.

shipment is delayed so now expecting it to arrive tomorrow morning. All being well. Splurged on a cheap 65” monitor too hehe.

already using glass out on the ‘simple’ setup and it works a treat.

out of curiosity, does the hardware add much of an overhead FPS wise? I’d seriously consider a miniPC if it was beneficial.

Not so sure about the specs, but the setup is quite intuitive for remote setup.

The question here is how many displays are you connecting and which resolution do they have, what are the specs of your PC. I can´t confirm your PC can handle what you want to do. From own experience outsourcing 3 1080p displays (ECAM and both EFIS displays) already gave me a significant fps boost since they were initially rendered by the CPU and USB to HMDI adapters and i was able to increase the graphics sightly. However my main screens are downgraded to 1080 still. Setting up GlassOut on a second PC is super simple I think and worth a try if you have a second PC laying around anyways. 

If you want to run Skalarki panels from a second PC I think you require another Profiler license. I would expect the most performance boost from removing additional screens from your main PC.

I have successfully installed GlassOut on my old P3D homecockpit PC, so that is definitely capable of running just all the screens on the MIP including ISIS and DCDU. For the DCDUs I use a HDMI splitter so both display the same screen. I still have two unused USB to HDMI outputs available which I plan to  use for future (DIY?) digital radios.

The big advantage using the second PC is definitely offloading the main PC from 1 HDMI port and 1 USB hub with 5 USB to HDMI adapters.

I probably have to consider getting airco for my (small) simulator room though, now with two PCs running all the time. 😀

I tried to install Skalarki Profiler but it wouldn't...probably because of the licence. I only have their motorised TQ anyway so I will just leave that on the main PC.

Regarding the Profiler, I have sent Marcin an email about the 2015-TQ compatibility of the new connect software and I'm waiting for his answer.

Sadly, the Big TV arrived damaged, but it's useable for now, and they just refunded me the money so i'll put that towards something much better. 

My chair is too wide, and i really wish I had purchased the platform for it, and the WinWing pedals are too wide by about 10 mil so shall take those into work and cut 5mm off of each end of the pedals with the CNC machine and redo the pedal supports.
