Iam in a bit of a dilemma!. I've been with Nvidia for 17 years, but Iam very tempted to switch, Iam running z390 hero, 9700k, 32gb ram bla bla bla, i also have a free sync main monitor, its that and the vram that is attracting me, its just all these years I've been told Intel and Nvidia just works better with p3d/fsx does that still hold true? I would really like your thoughts on this subject, thanks fellas
Hello everyone, I've been tweaking my P3d v5 settings to see what makes the sim tick. Unlike in v4, v5 makes very heavy use of VRAM, which is good! However, I and a few others have noticed that it's rather easy to crash the sim by going over the memory limit. With all the ORBX products installed, sitting at FlyTampa EKCH V2, I easily hit the VRAM limit with my RTX 2080 when sat in a default A/C. Bear in mind that most of my sliders are one notch away from the maximum position. I just wanted to let you know so that you're prepared for this possible issue ahead of the FSLabs v5 installers coming out. So far I have found that the two biggest VRAM hogs are Advanced Atmospherics (TrueSky Beta) and Texture Resolution. Just look at the attached screenshots taken at Copenhagen and see how quickly the VRAM usage increases as you choose a higher texture resolution. You can easily save about 600MB just by choosing High instead of Ultra, and both look absolutely fantastic when viewed up close, let alone from the cockpit or high up above the ground. LM are aware of the issue of high VRAM usage and are looking for ways to avoid hitting the memory limit. Bear in mind also that I'm intentionally pushing the sim and your mileage will definitely vary. I just assumed that most of us who are invested in the FSLabs busses will be using some high quality add-ons alongside it. Cheers, Louis texture_res.zip
As the title suggest, I have a GTX760 atm. It has done it's work for four years now, it can handle P3D V4 with the bus at 30 FPS, but with dynamic lighting or bad weather it just can't take it anymore. Looking at the 1070 as next card. I'm not looking for a huge improvement over the 760, but I am wondering which one I should take since the price differs per card (MSI, ASUS etc) Anyone any experience with the 1070 and which ones I should avoid when buying one? Cheers, Lars
Hello all! I need help choosing a new video card to use with P3Dv4. I've read a lot of threads all around the internet but I still can't make a decision, mainly because apparently it depends a lot on my specs, so it becomes almost a case by case solution (for not experts like myself). My system is a i7-4790k 4GHz with 16GB RAM (both planned to be upgraded only after 2-3 years if needed) and a 24" full HD monitor (don't intend to go 4k anytime soon). I also plan on buying TrackIR sometime in the near future. Multimonitors I plan on using only for gauges, for the time being. Many people recommend the 1080Ti, but it seems to me that my system would not be able to benefit from it, especially the monitor. Am I right? The next best thing is the 1080, would that suit me well or is it still a waste? What about the 1070? Could anybody point me to a direction? Thank you! Regards, Bruno.
